A Visit to Nam Ngum Lake

Nam Ngum Lake is situated about 80km north of Vientiane in the Ang Nam Ngum Reservoir. The peaceful scenery over the Nam Ngum River and its green valley is enhanced by this vast lake. The itinerary also includes visit to Vangxang, an 11th century Buddhist archeological site, take a boat trip and stop at local villages. It will be a day filled with interesting things to see but at a relaxing pace.
Morning, your private guide will meet you at your hotel and head out of the city to make your way to Nam Ngum.
Nam Ngum is a huge reservoir created by damming the Nam Ngum River. Along the way, you’ll stop to visit Vang Xang, a famous archeological site dating back 11th century. You also visit Ban Keun, which is famous for its salt extraction plant and a village that distills the local Lao whiskey. Arrival Nam Ngum Lake, embark on a long tail boat visiting fishing villages in the various islets. You can take a short walk to explore the lifestyle of the local fishermen. On return, if time permits and if wanted, you might try to experience gambling at the legal Lao casino located in the valley where you can also enjoy a beautiful view of the lake. We return to Vientiane by late evening.
